Personal Instruction
The practice of meditation has been handed down from teacher to student for more than 2,500 years. We recommend receiving instruction from a qualified meditation instructor. All instructors at the Shambhala Centre are trained students of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and/or Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.

Learn to Meditate Open Houses
Meditation instruction is offered at the Ottawa Shambhala Meditation Centre free of charge two Wednesdays per month during the Learn to Meditate open houses. You can just drop in, no registration is required.
Learn to Meditate starts at 7 p.m. and ends around 8:30 p.m. It includes a comprehensive meditation instruction, an introduction to the Shambhala Centre, time for discussion, and refreshments.
Once you have had the instruction, you will be able to start meditating at home, and join us for group meditation practice on Tuesday and Wednesday (starting in January) evenings, and Sunday mornings. (Read more about meditation.)

Other Ways to Receive Meditation Instruction
We periodically offer three-hour Introduction to Meditation workshops on Saturday mornings. These workshops include a detailed presentation on sitting and walking meditation practice, and provide an opportunity for more intensive practice. (See if there is one coming up)
Meditation instruction is also offered as part of all weekend courses taught at the Centre.
If you are not able to attend any of the sessions above, you can contact us to set up a meeting with a meditation instructor.

Instruction Follow-up: M.I. Nights
Once a month, on a Tuesday evening, a meditation instructor will be available at the Shambhala Centre to lead a small discussion group and answer questions on meditation and the Shambhala Buddhist path. This follow-up instruction is available to anyone who has already received meditation instruction. It will be given in the small shrine room after the group meditation practice. People can attend as many times as they wish. Free of charge.
